Get conservatory-level flute training without a high-pressure conservatory environment.
At Boston Woodwind Academy, we believe in a winning combination of fun and focus to empower musicians of all ages and ability levels to be the best they can be. We help students form a rock-solid foundation of technique and music theory to serve as a springboard for finding their voice as a musician. We aim to make learning to play the flute a rewarding experience that also gives students broader historical and cultural context for what they're playing. While our name suggests we're in Boston, we have a studio right in Gloucester near Hammond Castle for Cape Ann students to get the same professional-level training you'd get 'up the line'.
Whether you're a total beginner who's never touched a flute, a seasoned professional looking to refine your technique, an adult student with a flute collecting dust that you used to play, or are looking to get into music school (we have direct experience with Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory, Longy, and others), you'll come away from each lesson with new knowledge, skill, and encouragement.
Our Cape Ann flute lessons are taught by local woodwind artist, composer, and educator Joe LaRocca in our spacious and comfortable studio in Gloucester.
Joe LaRocca | Woodwind Artist
"I cannot emphasize enough the notion that the desire to learn is most important in music. A student cannot be forced to become a great musician, it first has to come from the heart. The core of my teaching style centers around that. I try to impart my passion for music to the student so as to motivate them into developing a natural curiosity about the mastery of the craft as well as artistry."
